Catalytic Converters
How does Catalytic Converters work?
Catalytic converters work by converting harmful pollutants in exhaust gases into less harmful emissions before they leave the vehicle’s exhaust system. Inside the catalytic converter, there are catalyst materials such as platinum, palladium, and rhodium coated on a ceramic honeycomb or bead substrate. These materials initiate oxidation and reduction reactions when exhaust gases pass through the converter. As a result, harmful gases like carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbons are transformed into less harmful substances like carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and water vapor. This process significantly reduces the overall emissions from the vehicle, helping to meet environmental standards and reduce air pollution.
