How does Catalytic Converters work?
Catalytic converters work by using a catalyst to facilitate a chemical reaction that converts harmful gases from an engine’s exhaust into less harmful substances. Typically found in the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine, they contain a core of ceramic material coated with platinum, palladium, and rhodium, the catalyst elements. As exhaust gases pass through the converter, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides are transformed into carbon dioxide, water vapor, and nitrogen. This process significantly reduces the emission of harmful pollutants into the atmosphere.
