How Catalytic Converters Work
How does a catalytic converter work?
Catalytic converters work by using catalysts, typically made from platinum, palladium, and rhodium, to trigger chemical reactions that convert harmful pollutants in exhaust gases into less harmful emissions. When exhaust gases containing nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons pass over the catalysts in the converter, these compounds are transformed into nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and water vapor, reducing the environmental impact of vehicle emissions.
