How Catalytic Converters Work?
How does a Catalytic Converter work?
A catalytic converter is a key component in a vehicle’s exhaust system that reduces harmful emissions. It works by converting toxic gases like carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides into less harmful substances such as carbon dioxide, water vapor, and nitrogen gas. The converter contains a ceramic or metal substrate with a coating of precious metals like platinum, palladium, and rhodium, acting as catalysts. When exhaust gases pass through the converter, chemical reactions occur on the surface of the catalysts, breaking down the pollutants into less harmful emissions.
