Automotive Scrapyard Operations
How does an Automotive Scrapyard work?
An automotive scrapyard, also known as a salvage yard, operates by acquiring end-of-life vehicles, which are no longer roadworthy or cost-effective to repair. The process begins with the assessment of a vehicle’s potential for parts resale or metal recycling. Vehicles are stripped of all reusable components such as engines, transmissions, and electronics, which are cleaned, tested, and stored for sale. The remaining vehicle body is often crushed and subsequently sent to recycling facilities for metal recovery. The scrapyard ensures proper disposal of hazardous fluids and materials, adhering to environmental regulations. By salvaging usable parts and recycling metals, automotive scrapyards contribute to reducing waste and promoting sustainability within the automotive supply chain.
