Frequently Asked Questions
How does an Automotive Scrapyard work?
Automotive scrapyards, also known as junkyards or salvage yards, operate by receiving vehicles that are no longer functional or roadworthy. These may come from individual owners, insurance companies, or towing services. Once a vehicle arrives, it is evaluated to determine which parts can be salvaged. Usable components, such as engines, transmissions, and body panels, are removed and cataloged for resale. Hazardous fluids and materials are safely extracted and disposed of according to environmental regulations. The remaining metal structure is crushed and sold as scrap metal, to be recycled into new steel products. This process not only minimizes waste but also provides an important source of recycled parts, often at a fraction of the cost of new ones.
